How to diagnose HIV HomeThis is a featured page

HIV has always been considered one of the most dangerous diseases of this century. But you have to admire it for its totally unbiased killing methods. AIDS can affect anyone and everyone and it’s an equal opportunity killer that can only be controlled with serious care and prevention. But what about the thousands of HIV positive patients who struggle to keep their day to day lives separate from the disease and its effects? There are several such patients that do lead active HIV positive lifestyles while still ensuring that the disease does not spread from them to anyone else. But the day to day stress of dealing with the disease is highly telling with most patients finding it incredibly difficult to deal with the problem.

Of course there are several support groups and private clinics and other facilities that the HIV patients do frequent quire regularly. Support groups are fine but they do involve disclosing the fact that you are HIV positive to a large audience and most people shy away from just that! But the internet is proving to be a godsend by allowing thousands of anonymous writers to blog about their daily concerns and health care routines. One such really interesting blog is written by a young gay who has been struggling to control his disease for the last ten years.

One particularly harrowing post talks about him cutting his finger at his mother’s house and the resulting pandemonium about the blood. Although we believe that we live in enlightened times, reading such posts really opens your eyes to reality! Even though the HIV & AIDS virus cannot survive for more than 15 seconds outside the body; people still shy away from touching HIV patients and associating with them or even sharing food with them. His posts are a stark awakening to what the world for HIV patients can be! And unfortunately, although several of his readers are happy to laud his efforts to fight and raise awareness; almost all prefer to remain anonymous.

It’s a sorry state of affairs! Although awareness of the disease has increased and safe sex practices have ensured that people in developed countries have learned how to limit spread of the disease; social acceptance is still at an abysmal level all over the world! You may be HIV positive and perfectly able to carry out your life and your job but you will notice people who act odd around you!
